Why the urgency?
<text><p>FT reported this morning that SpaceX is getting ready to issue $30 billion in bonds, plus get $10 billion in bank loans, to buy Nvidia chips. The most obvious explanation is that SpaceX is just prepping cash for more capex burn.In the first half of 2026, SpaceX generated $3.5 billion of operating cash flow on $28.5 billion in capex. In Q2, negative free cash flow jumped 76% to $9 billion. And while the cash burn is growing, SpaceX's AI business is nowhere near break-even on operating costs, let alone after infrastructure spending. Now another possibility is that SpaceX decided to borrow as much as possible while it still has investment-grade status. After the IPO, S&amp;P rated SpaceX BBB. That's one notch above the lowest investment-grade rating, but it still opens the company to a wider pool of creditors and better financing terms. If you don't have that, you either pay more. For example, before merging with SpaceX, xAI had to raise $5 billion of unrated debt at a 12.5% fixed rate. Or you have to resort to some kind of financial engineering. Anthropic, for example, has financed its chips through a special-purpose vehicle backstopped by investment-grade Broadcom. SpaceX doesn't have to go through that, and that's its ticket to cheaper money. At least for now. Its post-IPO 2056 bonds are trading at 85 cents on the dollar and about 227 basis points over Treasuries, which is a spread more reminiscent of junk debt.</p></text><analysis /><region /><search_query /><result_type />
<published_at /><credits>0.0100</credits><parent_id /><referenced_id /><created_at>2026-10-07T12:32:58.299493+00:00</created_at>

<tags><tag>spacex</tag><tag>us</tag><tag>fundraising</tag></tags><media><media_item>

<alt>View image</alt><media_type /><file /><file_name /><file_ext /><created_at>2026-10-07T12:33:00.328965+00:00</created_at></media_item></media>

<handler /><handler_name /><external_id />
Finding data: SpaceX is discussing whether to buy ...
<text><p>Finding data: SpaceX is discussing whether to buy customer and operational information from troubled or defunct startups. That’s the approach suddenly being taken by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and AI rivals Elon Musk and Sam Altman. It’s also the approach being taken by investors, who are dumping chip stocks and other AI plays to start the week. But it might be an overreaction to Amodei’s calls for a slowdown in the pace of artificial-intelligence development. Of course, we at Barron’s might be wrong as we were about SpaceX. The market’s flight to safety is unusual—go-to haven gold is falling and Treasury yields are unmoved, yet Bitcoin and software stocks are on track to be the day’s big winners. Nvidia stock is another left-field idea for a safer bet, it’s better placed than chip rivals if AI progress slows. On top of the tech turmoil, Brent crude prices have jumped to $107 a barrel after Saudi Arabia shut a key oil pipeline as fighting in the Middle East escalates. The 10-year Treasury yield is at 4.97%, and the Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates on Wednesday.</p></text><analysis /><region /><search_query /><result_type />
<published_at /><credits>0.0090</credits><parent_id /><referenced_id /><created_at>2026-09-14T11:52:40.320251+00:00</created_at>

<tags><tag>saudi-arabia</tag><tag>elon-musk</tag><tag>barron’s</tag><tag>nvidia</tag><tag>federal-reserve</tag><tag>spacex</tag><tag>sam-altman</tag><tag>dario-amodei</tag><tag>anthropic</tag></tags><media><media_item>

<alt>The Barron's Daily</alt><media_type /><file /><file_name /><file_ext /><created_at>2026-09-14T11:52:40.698783+00:00</created_at></media_item></media>

<handler>@NotTomBrown</handler><handler_name>Tom Brown</handler_name><external_id />
Cursor has been a trusted partner of Anthropic sin...
<text>Cursor has been a trusted partner of Anthropic since Sonnet 3.5.
