Residents say Israeli forces have blocked access to the community since mid-September while expanding the barrier through Palestinian land. Some have been forced to move water, fodder and milk at night by donkey to avoid Israeli soldiers and settlers. One resident said no water had entered the community for three days, putting about 15,000 head of livestock at risk. The barrier, which Israel calls “Crimson Thread”, runs for about 20km (12 miles) through the northern Jordan Valley and includes military roads, trenches and embankments. The procedural vote was the latest sign of friction between US Democrats and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government over Israel’s treatment of Palestinians, and of US Republicans’ continuing strong support for Netanyahu’s coalition. The bill would have required the State Department to report to Congress on the killing of US citizens by Israeli settlers or Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank and to assess the human rights situation there. The Senate voted 47 to 51 to block the resolution. Every Democratic senator except John Fetterman voted in favour, and every Republican senator but Rand Paul voted against. The resolution needed a simple majority to pass. The vote came weeks before the US midterm elections. Polls suggest that Republicans could lose their congressional majorities, potentially signalling a major shift in US policy towards Israel in a new Congress.
<analysis /><region /><search_query /><result_type />

<media />

ICRC warns violence, movement restrictions and settlement expansion making life ‘untenable’ for West Bank civilians

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has called for the urgent protection of civilians in the occupied West Bank, saying surging violence, tighter restrictions on movement, and accelerating settlement expansion are making everyday life untenable. In a statement, the ICRC said dozens of Palestinians have been killed, hundreds injured and many more displaced this year alone, with homes and property damaged or destroyed, leaving many without shelter or livelihoods. “The frequent and severe violence must be brought to an end,” said Julien Lerisson, head of the ICRC’s delegation for Israel and the occupied territories. He said authorities must protect the population from violence, “including when that violence is inflicted by settlers”. The ICRC said movement restrictions mean patients cannot reach health care and children cannot get to school. Ambulances are sometimes held up for hours at checkpoints, or forced into long detours, endangering first responders and those they seek to help, he added. The organisation said Israel has a right to take measures to ensure its security but, as the occupying power, must treat Palestinians, who are protected persons under international humanitarian law, humanely, and protect them from violence. “This means protecting civilians from violence and ceasing the expansion of civilian settlements,” Lerisson said.
<analysis /><region /><search_query /><result_type />

<media><media_item>
<alt>Members of the Israeli security forces check vehicles queueing at the Israeli Atara checkpoint on Route 465, near Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on September 27, 2026.</alt></media_item></media>

Israel revokes immigration permits for 2 Jewish men over West Bank activism

Haaretz reports that Israeli authorities have revoked immigration permits for two young men who had worked with campaign groups to protect Palestinians from settler pogroms in the occupied West Bank. And this is just another example: The Ein Synia checkpoint has been closed over the past week. Israeli forces also do a lot of checks at the checkpoint near the illegal Israeli settlement of Beit El, which causes major traffic jams around that area. Some checkpoints are reopening, including the Yabrud-Silwad road checkpoint, northeast of Ramallah. The Israeli forces stationed in Ramallah sometimes close them to exert collective punishment and other times because they are raiding the town and to continue disrupting Palestinians’ lives. All of this is happening before Israel’s elections. All these images help Israeli politicians lobby and get more votes because they can show that they are trying to enhance security for Israelis, that they are cracking down on what the Israelis call “Palestinian terror”.
