Browser Extension Setup#

The Gnosly Browser Agent is a client-side extension that allows you to clip verified text, threads, and source metadata directly from web pages, social platforms (X, LinkedIn), webmail clients, and messaging apps (WhatsApp Web) straight into your Gnosly workspaces.

System Requirements#

  • Google Chrome (v110 or higher) or any Chromium-based browser (Brave, Microsoft Edge, Arc).

  • An active Gnosly account.

  • Active network access to gnosly.com.

Step 1: Install the Extension#

  1. Open the Chrome Web Store and search for Gnosly Browser Agent (or navigate directly to the extension installation link provided in your Gnosly dashboard).

  2. Click Add to Chrome.

  3. Confirm the browser permission prompt by clicking Add extension.

  4. Click the puzzle icon (Extensions) in your browser toolbar and click the Pin icon next to Gnosly to keep it accessible.

Step 2: Authentication & Account Linking#

The extension syncs directly with your active Gnosly session.

  1. Navigate to gnosly.com and ensure you are logged into your account.

  2. Click the Gnosly icon in your browser toolbar.

  3. The popup will automatically detect your session and display your account identifier and active workspaces.

  4. If you see a Not Authenticated prompt:

    • Click Sign In via Web.

    • Complete authentication in the opened tab.

    • Reopen the extension popup to finalize the handshake.

Step 3: Configure Default Capture Settings#

Inside the extension popup, you can predefine routing behaviors to speed up clipping:

  • Default Workspace: Choose which Thematic Chat receives clips if none is manually specified during capture.

  • Preserve Source Metadata: Kept enabled by default to append canonical URL, timestamp, author handle, and publication source to every clipped signal.

  • Auto-Tagging Assist: Sends clipped content through the Gnosly classification pipeline to assign domain tags (e.g., Economics, Tech) automatically upon ingestion.

Step 4: Verify the Setup#

  1. Open any article or social thread (e.g., on X or LinkedIn).

  2. Highlight a paragraph of text.

  3. Right-click and choose Send to Gnosly (or open the extension popup and click Clip Selection).

  4. Verify that a success notification (Signal Saved to [Workspace]) appears in the bottom right corner.

  5. Open your Gnosly dashboard and check the selected Thematic Chat to confirm the new event is indexed.

Troubleshooting & Common Issues#

  • Session Not Detected: Ensure cookies and local storage are enabled for gnosly.com. If using private/incognito windows, you must explicitly enable the extension in chrome://extensions under “Allow in Incognito”.

  • Extension Icon Inactive: Refresh the target web page. Extensions cannot run on browser internal pages (such as chrome:// URLs or the Chrome Web Store gallery).
